Jhumpa Lahiri
(born July 11, 1967), is an American author. She is the daughter of a Bengali Indian immigrants couple. Her parent's situation of moving to Cambridge from Calcutta resembles much of the Gangulis. She herself once shares that she finds herself between two worlds: the world of her parents and the world that they leave behind in an interview with PBS Newshour. As Lahiri acknowledges this division in her life, it becomes the inspiration for her to write "The Namesake".
